๐Ÿ”ฎ Integral Life Practice (MOE)

๐Ÿงญ Purpose

A structured approach to whole-life development based on Ken Wilberโ€™s Integral framework. ILP treats the cultivation of body, mind, soul, and spirit โ€” across individual and collective dimensions โ€” as a single integrated practice rather than separate pursuits.

โ€œThe most important thing is to engage in an ILP that touches all the essential modules โ€” body, mind, spirit, shadow โ€” in an integral way.โ€ โ€” Ken Wilber

๐Ÿ”‘ Core Modules

๐Ÿ’ช Gold: Body

The physical foundation. Without a strong body practice, other development is limited.

Minimum viable practice:

  • Strength training 3x/week
  • Aerobic exercise 2x/week
  • Sleep 7-8 hours
  • Nutrition โ€” reduce processed food, adequate protein

Your practice:

๐Ÿง˜ Gold: Mind โ€” Meditation

The single highest-leverage practice in ILP. Wilber recommends starting with 20 min/day.

Practices (pick one to anchor):

  • Mindfulness / Vipassana โ€” witness awareness
  • Zen โ€” koan practice, shikantaza
  • Tibetan โ€” deity yoga, dzogchen
  • Centring Prayer โ€” Christian contemplative
  • Big Mind Process โ€” Genpo Roshi (Wilberโ€™s recommended entry point)

Your practice:

๐ŸŒ‘ Gold: Shadow โ€” 3-2-1 Process

The most neglected module. Shadow work integrates disowned aspects of self.

The 3-2-1 Process:

  1. Face it (3rd person) โ€” describe the shadow figure or quality: โ€œIt isโ€ฆโ€
  2. Talk to it (2nd person) โ€” dialogue: โ€œYou areโ€ฆ I feelโ€ฆโ€
  3. Be it (1st person) โ€” embody: โ€œI amโ€ฆโ€

Triggers for shadow work:

  • Strong emotional reaction to another person
  • Persistent negative pattern
  • Dream figures that disturb you
  • Qualities you strongly admire or strongly despise in others

Your practice:

  • When: Weekly or when triggered
  • Journal: Log

๐Ÿ”ท Gold: Spirit โ€” Big Mind / Big Heart

Non-dual awareness practice. Direct recognition of awareness itself.

Entry practices:

  • โ€œWho is aware of this moment?โ€ โ€” resting as the witness
  • Big Mind process (Genpo Roshi) โ€” voice dialogue with different aspects
  • Headlessness practice (Douglas Harding)
  • Noting practice โ€” โ€œseeing, hearing, feeling, thinkingโ€ฆโ€

Your practice:

  • Current:
  • Integrated with: meditation sits

๐Ÿค Silver: Relationships / Ethics

Lower Left quadrant. How you show up in relation to others.

Integral ethics:

  • โ€œWhat would a person at integral altitude do here?โ€
  • Perspective-taking โ€” genuinely hold 1st, 2nd, 3rd person views
  • Service โ€” contribution beyond personal development

Your practice:

  • Partner: Maria Belen โ€” quality time and presence
  • Community: Gaeiras / Portugal integration
  • Service:

๐ŸŒ Silver: Work and World โ€” LR Quadrant

Systems, environment, finances as spiritual practice.

Integral approach:

  • Finances as stewardship โ€” Shannonโ€™s Demon is portfolio mindfulness
  • Energy independence as values expression
  • Garden as systems thinking in practice
  • Knowlden as right-livelihood for the mind
