Telling the time with horas
In European Portuguese, time is expressed with 'São' for most hours: 'São duas horas' (it's 2 o'clock). For 1:00, use 'É uma hora'.
- São três horas. (It is three o'clock.)
- É uma hora. (It is one o'clock.)
- São duas e meia. (It is half past two.)
Cultural notes
Portuguese mealtimes are later than in English-speaking countries: lunch 12:30-14:00, dinner 19:30-21:00.
